Submissions for the first round are now closed – a new round, with a workshop attached – is planned for February 2026.
STREET! uses your phone’s GPS to trigger poetry. ‘A soundpool’ is drawn on a map and placed over any location desired on that map (such as over the front of the Central Library). 3 or 4 recorded poems are ‘seeded’ into this soundpool. When you download the app ‘SatsymphQR’ onto your phone (you need to point the phone at the SatsymphQR QR-code as in the picture above) and scan the same QR again FROM WITHIN THE APP (it’s the googly rectangle screaming at you!), ‘street’ is downloaded to ‘Library’.
Go to within about 10m of any of the participating libraries, open SatsymphQR, open Library, click on ‘street’ – a map rolls out on-screen.
Ok, and now? ‘I am the blue arrow. It points in the direction I’m looking. It turns as I turn (oh, btw, the map is NOT scrollable!).’ Walk a bit and you’ll see the arrow (ME) move across the map as you move, or turn as you turn. Move into the red soundpool. The poems will start. There may be 3, 4 or even 5 poems in each soundpool – listen to them all! Move on to another participating library and repeat the procedure. It’s FUN.
The best sound quality will be with earbuds/headphones.
Please take care when using the app. Watch out for traffic. Do NOT step out into the road. Watch out for other people, dogs, bicycles and any other of the usual urban hazards.

This is what you will see on your screen. I am the blue arrow. It points the direction I am heading. The coloured blob is ‘a soundpool’. containing the poems. When I move into the soundpool, the poetry is triggered by my phone’s gps. Play with it, swivel on the spot (the arrow – me – swivels) see what happens when you go out of the soundpool, then back in again!
