HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND EXPERIENCE THE WATCHET POEMSCAPE IS ON THIS PAGE
CLICK HERE FOR THE EAST QUANTOXHEAD-KILVE SELF-GUIDED WALK
It’s best to pre-load your smartphone with the app before you come along to access this experience, tho’ NOTE: if you haven’t done this, this can be done either on the spot (if you have mobile roaming data) or there is free wi-fi at East Quay Arts, for example.
TO PRE-LOAD YOUR PHONE WITH THE WATCHET POEMSCAPE:
- at a fast wi-fi connection: on your smartphone search and download ‘SatsymphQR‘ from the Appstore (iPhone) or from Google Play (Android phones). It’s FREE!
- Open SatsymphQR. Choose ‘Scan QR’ and point camera at the QR below. This will download ‘qtxcoastalfestival’ to your phone’s ‘library’.

Scan this QR using ‘Scan QR’ from within the app on your phone, NOT from an independent scanner!
Once you have downloaded the poemscape to your phone, go to anywhere on Watchet Harbour, open ‘qtxcoastalfestival‘ from the ‘Library‘ list, put your headphones on/earbuds in and go find the poems*!
The poems start automatically – they are triggered by your phone’s GPS, so make sure this is enabled on your phone (on an iPhone it’s ‘settings/privacy & security/location services‘). YOU DON’T NEED A MAP: all the poems are around the Harbour (including one along the main street), the two arms of the quay walls and along behind East Quay Arts at Splash Point.
*NOTE: when you open the experience, you have a choice (1) you can either stick your phone in your pocket and just use your ears (and legs/method of forward propulsion) to find and listen to the poems (see map below); or (2) you can look at your screen – you are the arrow – and navigate towards those interesting pulsating blobs of colour (the ‘soundpools’), and listen to what’s in them.
There are some interesting overlaps and layerings of poems we have designed in for you, so the important thing is PLAY WITH THE POEMSCAPE – see how it reacts to where you are and which way you face! This is a highly sophisticated sonic experience – there is not just one ‘correct’ way to navigate it!
Here are the soundpools (each poem is introduced by name and by author on the app):

PLEASE TAKE CARE WHEN USING THE APP and don’t get lost in the soundworld – stay away from the quay walls (there’s lots of mud down there…) and watch out for other people, dogs, fishermen, any obstacles etc! Be particularly careful when listening to the soundpool outside ‘Pebbles Tavern’ as it’s directly on the main road!
